Pitt Biospecimen Core

The Pitt Biospecimen Core (PBC) supports Pitt research programs that utilize tissue materials. Patients must voluntarily consent to having their tissues donated.

For example: A patient with squamous cell carcinoma—the second most common form of skin cancer—may elect to donate their biopsied cells to the PBC. A researcher studying skin cancer may be able to use this tissue to study new therapies and treatments.

The PBC has been accepting and distributing donated tissue since 1991.
